The Road less travelled

This week I have been getting up earlier and studying people more acutely as I have tried to get to work through the snow.

(As an aside I am still amazed snow can cause so much chaos, when I was a child I'm sure it snowed this much all the time and we still went to school and parents still went to work- ah well those were the days, Mars bars were bigger too and there less adverts on the TV).

Anyway. What I have noticed is the very early morning is the best time to watch different kinds of people interact. Specifically the only people who have to be a train at 6am are either pinstriped suited city types, usually older, usually I suspect directors or at some level where they get paid enough to go in at 6am- or- the people who clean their offices (and everyone else's) or work in some other service type capacity. It's actually rather sweet to note that I suppose both sections play a very important role in our economy and they treat each other with a lot of respect. They let each other go first and say good morning in a way that people don't on a packed 8.34 northern line tube.

  1. Oh don't. Yesterday I was practically sitting in the bus driver's lap at 8.30am it was so packed. Quite the worst time to travel. I wish I could stay at home with my cats - they just gaze at the snow and ice from the safety of the window sill then curl up somewhere for another day of unrelenting toil. London did look quite lovely on Monday morning though didn't it. I enjoyed my walk through the snow. donanicola

  3. Hi Donanicola, yes there is something about the time between about 8.10 and 9am that has a kind of manic frenzied feeling.
Although it was crazy on Monday it did look lovely and the walk/ slide was lovely.

  4. Hi Jena, it's fascinating. I bet you get some real characters in a library. Rx

  5. I, too, am an avid people watcher- can't help it! Went to Melrose district of West Hollywood yesterday and had lunch outside (it's actually been quite warm here) and loved the sights and people- I also saw Nicki Hilton. Ha! Enjoy the snow!

  6. Hi Daily, Ooh lunching in Hollywood sounds very fabulous! as does sitting outside... The snow is quite melted now but the parks still look pretty. You wouldn't have believed it on Monday- I'm sure your family have said. It was like the whole of London had been moved to Russia overnight or something. It's been fun layering up! Normal fashion goes out the window and it's all about the thickets scarf and the chicest flat shoes that have grip etc. Funny how different everyone looks and how behavious has altered.
