In which our heroine vanishes inside the TV box

After an extremely hectic and cool social week of getting in at 1am and being up at 6am each day I, of course, succumbed to a cold at the weekend.

This week has been the exact opposite of last and I have been hurrying home to watch endless TV with only a pack on man size tissues and those old fashioned blackcurrant glycerin sweets for company- and I have been secretly loving it!

Ashes to Ashes continues to have me on the edge of my seat but my favourite programme of the week so far is Mary Portas' new Mary, Queen of charity shops. I have always enjoyed her programme but this one was real treasure. It's like a cross between a fashion programme, a lifestyle programme, a reality TV show and a soap opera. The area manager, the toy twins, the shy lady who was too scared to sell cake- such amazing characters. Mary Portas' facial expressions are priceless.

Mary and all of her army of volunteers obviously really care about the shop doing well and it made me feel good about being someone who only takes things I want would to buy to the charity shop- which are normally things I will never fit in again...

  4. Hi Vicki, Ashes to Ashes is sooo good! try and watch it when you're here. Even when I am not ill I am extremely upset if I have to miss any. There are only 8 episodes per series so it's not to hard to catch them all- actually I think it finishes next week so you might need to wait for repeats. It's the follow on to Life on Mars if you watched that at all.

Thank you- I'm on the mend, first evening outing tonight!

  5. Hi Jen, sometimes you just need some TV time don't you. I have also been indulging in some ER box sets!

  7. I haven't seen the charity shop show, but it sounds interesting. I only give them 'good' stuff, too. But looking at some of the clothes you see in the shops - shrunk, faded, bobbly - it's obvious that other people aren't so bothered about the quality of their 'charity'! ;-)

Ah yes, Ashes to Ashes. I'm going to a signing event this weekend, Philip Glenister will be there. I fancy getting his autograph on my Life on Mars DVD set - why not, he's brought to life one of the best characters on TV!

  8. Hi Tania, getting Philip Glenister's signature sounds like a great plan. He seems like a lovely man, very modest and not at all Gene Hunt like, although they share a certain something obviously.

Very excited about tomorrow night's final episode of A2A series 2. Am much better now but staying in tomorrow with retro sweets and maybe something dreaful like Asti to get well into the 80s vibe.

  9. Rose,

well, as it turns out, signing about 1000 autographs turns mild-mannered Glenister into something resembling Gene.... ;-) At least, by the time I got to him and asked if his signing hand was holding up ok, he just grumped, 'we're getting there' and had a very Gene-in-bad-mood expression. I don't blame him at all, he was probably tired and blistered and well fed up by then. Not to mention cold - the event was held at the MK Dons stadium, open to the wind! Oh, they also had the Quattro outside.

I'm looking forward to the episode tonight, too! The phone is going on ansa, and I'm not answering the door even if the block catches fire.

  10. Tania, I can't believe you met the Gene Genie!! I think that is kind of more fun than meeting the real Philip. Perhaps her was in character and it wasn't to do with the cold/ hand cramp.

I know I will be utterly glued later too!

  11. Rose,
actually, it was! ;-) Yes, he might have been in character, I didn't have time to find out, but I like to think so.
I also met Mr Spock (Leonard Nimoy, the original), who winked at me. Heh. And Nathan Fillion (Captain Mal from Firefly), who did the same. Was it 'Wink At Tania Day', and nobody told me?

So what did you think of the finale? I for one will not be eating battered sausages in the near future...

  12. Tania, yes I think it's best to think of it as meeting Gene! Wow Leonard Nimoy is a legend! So much winking- sounds like a very good day to me.

Now last night, I agree about the sausage- poor poor Ray. It was so awful when Alex and Gene were really fighting. Then of course they were okay and then Alex got shot! awful!

I was totally sitting on the edge of my seat at the end when Alex woke up. I don't know how we are expected to wait for the next series. Am very intrigued to see what will happen in the next one. It's truly a difficult situation, she has to end up with Gene but then there is no way she could be happy without Molly.

  13. Yes, I don't know how they will resolve that one. With Sam, it was obvious that he'd choose to stay with Annie, there was nothing to really keep him in his own time.

I tend to think she should choose Gene, if only because the girl playing Molly looks about 25, and well able to look after herself. OK, that's cynical, but really, she does! So it's hard for me to feel what I'm meant to feel about her. Maybe if she'd been a little cutie. And Gene does have such pretty eyes.... ;-)

  14. You are right about Molly being rather older than she's meant to be!

The chemistry between Gene and Alex is so electric even though they both choose to not really do anything about it- they have to end up together. I wonder if this time there will be some way we can have a happy ending where Gene and Alex can be together. Perhaps that is why Molly is 25- she is Alex's child with Gene!!

  15. Rose, I am LOVING Mary QOCS! She is so rude. Brenda is a legend and I love the way Nick the manager just walks off when she's trying to scold him - just like a husband. Shame you're not on Twitter, Titian Red and I had a great "chat" about this the other night. Feel better love xxxxxx

  16. Cassandra, I know but she gets away with it! She cries quite a lot for someone so tough too. Brenda is wonderful but the toy twins just give me the giggles.

I don't know how the area manager keeps his job- he just speaks rubbish in management speak, gets red in the face and then leaves again.

I have been considering twitter but I think I might never be off it. I can imagine twittering in my sleep. Am sure it's only a matter of time!

Am much better now- I still look/ sound a bit gross but feel okay!
